Social work & inclusion
Support people in vulnerable situations and help build a more inclusive society.
Social work and inclusion is one of the most common and in-demand areas within ESC. Here you work closely with people who, for various reasons, find themselves in vulnerable situations β this can include homeless people, elderly without social networks, children at risk, people with disabilities or young people who have fallen through the cracks of the system. The work is concrete, meaningful and often immediately visible.
What do you do as a volunteer?
What might it look like?
Morning at the youth centre
You welcome teenagers who drop in during the school day. You help with homework, play table tennis and talk about the future with young people who lack positive adult role models.
Afternoon at a care home
You organise a music session and a memory cafΓ© with the residents. You help them call their families on the tablet. For many, you are their only visitor of the day.
Evening at a shelter
You welcome homeless people, serve dinner and listen. Sometimes you translate β sometimes it is enough just to be a person who truly sees them.
Skills you develop
Empathetic and non-judgmental communication
Crisis management and emotional resilience
Teamwork in multicultural environments
Basic understanding of social systems and welfare models
Practical experience directly relevant to social work, psychology or education degrees
